Pacamor Kubar Bearings Introduces Bearing Solutions for Dental and Medical Handpieces
Press Release - Nov 29, 2004 - Troy, NY – Pacamor Kubar Bearings (PKB) has announced the expansion of its line of radial ball bearings to include specialized designs for high-speed medical and dental handpieces. The new bearing line offers a variety of retainer materials and designs, which assure the quiet and smooth operation desired by handpiece users.  These attributes help promote longer bearing life and wear resistance under the extreme conditions medical bearings typically experience.  The postoperative equipment sanitization process (autoclave) reaches temperatures in excess of 121 o c (250 o F), which can lead to the breakdown of many standard lubricants and retainer materials.  Daily operational conditions introduce blood and bone fragments into the handpiece assembly, which can contaminate the bearing and cause premature failure of the handpiece.

Autoclave resistant Phenolic and Torlon (polyamide-imide) retainers offer flexibility regarding rigors of handpiece maintenance.  Phenolic bearing retainers are forgiving under situations where regular handpiece maintenance is less likely and Torlon retainer material offers additional bearing life under frequent autoclave cycles.  In addition to the variety of retainers available, the PKB design includes corrosion resistant 440C material and a variety of bearing closures, including a patented seal consisting of Teflon and stainless steel.  In addition to high-end retainer and shield designs, PKB standard crown and ribbon retainers round out the offering as an economical solution for less demanding applications. "Bearing life is a critical factor in the performance of a quality dental or medical handpiece," said Augustine Sperrazza, CEO. "Increasing the bearing life while maintaining a cost competitive position, coupled with prompt delivery, creates a total product package that is highly advantageous to today's medical tool developers and users."

Radial bearings are user friendly.  The full shoulder design prevents disassembly of the bearing during handling and installation.  While many designs are unforgiving in the installation process, radial bearings offer additional flexibility if a bearing requires forward or backward installation as a design feature.  This flexible assembly feature creates a cost reduction for the bearing installer. Dental and medical bearings are supplied ready for use, lubricated with food-safe and autoclave resistant grease.  Proper lubrication is essential to successful bearing performance in demanding applications and PKB uses only high quality, filtered lubricants in its antifriction bearings.

Bearing designs can be fully customized.  From simple flanges, to intricate lubrication grooves and o-ring housings to new materials and designs, technical expertise is available to assist with design engineering for custom products. The entire line of PKB products is available direct from the manufacturer by contacting 518-283-8002 ( www.pacamor.com ) or through PKB authorized distributors.  Pacamor Kubar Bearings offers the right bearing at the right price for all your radial, miniature precision, and instrument applications.

Timken Expands Line of Industrial Lubricants
The Timken Company - Nov 15, 2004 - Canton, OH - Timken has announced the expansion of its line of industrial lubricants to include ultra-high speed spindle grease, food safe grease, synthetic industrial grease and multi-use lithium grease.

In addition to protecting bearings from heat, wear and corrosion, three of these specially formulated lubricants offer synthetic base oil technology. This helps promote longer overall grease and bearing life, as well as a wider operating temperature range compared to conventional greases. In addition to the synthetic greases, Timken multi-use grease rounds out the offering as an economical solution for less demanding applications. "Bearing life ratings have increased throughout the years, making the lubricant a limiting factor toward total bearing life," said Dave Pierman, product manager -- lubricants/lubricant delivery systems. "Increasing the lubricant life through synthetic technology creates a total product package that is more commensurate with today's expected bearing life."

Proper lubrication is essential to successful bearing performance in demanding industrial operations. Improper lubrication can be the cause of nearly 50% of all bearing damage. Timken leverages its knowledge of material science and anti-friction bearings, and how these two elements affect overall system performance. Each Timken lubricant is designed to be application- and environment- specific. For example, the ultra-high speed spindle grease is designed for bearings in machine tools for drilling or grinding that experience ultra-high speeds and extreme temperatures. Food safe grease is a semi-synthetic product that is H1 and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) certified. It offers the food and pharmaceutical industries protection against hot and cold temperatures, moderate to high speeds, medium loads and incidental food contact. Timken's synthetic industrial grease is intended for use in extreme temperature, severe loads, corrosive and slow- to moderate-speed environments like those found in wind energy main bearings, pulp and paper machines, marine applications or general heavy industry. Multi-use lithium grease is suited to handle moderate speed, temperature and water, and light to moderate loads, such as in pins and bushings, water pumps, track rollers or other general industrial applications.

The four new greases are added to the line of five lubricants that were introduced in December 2003. Those included the premium all purpose industrial grease, construction and off-highway grease, ball bearing pillow block grease, high-speed ball bearing grease for electric motors, and mill grease. The entire line of Timken Industrial lubricants is available through Timken authorized distributors in the United States. All Timken lubricants are backed by highly trained customer service and technical support personnel.
